Corrie Cook

Corrie Cook has held the position of second flute in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra since 1999 and has performed periodically for the Chamber Music series as a duo with her husband, Darren who is also a VSO member. An active and dedicated teacher, Corrie maintains her own private studio fostering the skills and passion of many successful students.

As a freelance musician Corrie has performed with many musical organizations in the Portland, Oregon area including Portland’s Columbia Symphony, the Rose City Chamber Orchestra and groups further afield including the Newport Symphony and the Siletz Bay Music Festival. Corrie has appeared as a soloist with the Biola University Chamber Orchestra and as a duo with her husband, Darren, with the Rose City Chamber Orchestra and Bowdoin Summer Music Festival.

Corrie Cook is a native grown musician graduating from the acclaimed music department at Sam Barlow High School in Gresham, Oregon and participating in the world-class Portland Youth Philharmonic music program. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Biola University in La Mirada, California with a bachelor of music degree in flute performance as a student of Gary Woodward. Later, she studied with Dr. Laura Gilbert at the Harid Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida. She and Darren currently reside in Beaverton with their five children.

Darren Cook

Darren Cook has been the principal piccolo and assistant principal flute for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra since 1998. He has also appeared as a chamber musician many times in the VSO Chamber Music individually and as a duo with his wife, Corrie. An accomplished teacher, Darren has been teaching privately for many years and has had the privilege of having a student win the VSO young artist competition.

Darren has been seen all over the Northwest in many symphonies and orchestras including the Oregon Symphony, Portland’s Columbia Symphony, the Rose City Chamber Orchestra, Portland Chamber Orchestra, Newport Symphony, and Siletz Bay Music Festival to name a few. He is also in demand as a church musician, praised for his ability to improvise. He has been a member of the Oklahoma Sinfonia, the Tulsa Ballet Theater Orchestra, and the Sinfonia Virtuosi Ballet Orchestra. As a soloist Darren has performed with Portland Youth Philharmonic, Oral Roberts Orchestra, the Harid Philharmonia, the Rose City Chamber Orchestra and the Bowdoin Summer Music Festival Baroque Orchestra. As a flute duo with Corrie, Darren has performed with the Rose City Chamber Orchestra and Bowdoin Summer Music Festival.

Darren received his bachelor of music degree from the Harid Conservatory of Music (now the Conservatory of Music at Lynn University) in Boca Raton, Florida where he graduated at the top of his class and studied with Bob Bush and Dr. Laura Gilbert. He is a native Oregonian and was co-principal flute of the Portland Youth Philharmonic for five years. He makes his home in Beaverton with his wife and five children.
